What is efficiency?

This term is often used very loosely. But what it actually means is the efficiency of a system measured by the amount of heat the system generates compared to how much fuel it uses. A gas furze is typically measured in AFUE rating which is a percent rating of how efficiently the gas furnace uses the fuel. These ratings are usually as low as 78% or as high as 98%.

When is the best time to replace a furnace?

  • If the furnace is older than 10-15 years, maybe a little longer for a gas system. This is the general life span of a furnace.
  • If the furnace is needing continue repairs. If requiring a repair each year, it could be more efficient to replace the furnace.
  • If the repair cost is too much and it would make more sense to replace the system.
  • If the furnace is under-performing and is not keeping your home warm and comfortable.

Scheduling regular HVAC maintenance is like changing your car in for an oil change. It is important to keep the maintenance for a longer lasting furnace.
